(Cleveland, Ohio) – North Shore AFL-CIO Executive Secretary Dan O’Malley issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s election of Chris Ronayne as the next Cuyahoga County Executive:

“Chris Ronayne has long demonstrated his working-class values, and we know he will carry those with him into the County Executive’s office,” O’Malley said. “Working people of Cuyahoga County – especially those working for the county – stand ready to help realize Chris’s bold vision for our region.”

The North Shore AFL-CIO made endorsements in 40 races across three counties. More than 92% of those endorsed candidates have secured victory, including all four union members seeking office.

“Our success rate continues to grow for our endorsed candidates. We were proud to stand with candidates who embraced labor’s values, including our own members who ran for office,” O’Malley said. “I want to thank our volunteers and affiliate unions who contributed to our efforts in key races.

Significant victories for union members include:

Jennifer O’Donnell, a Cuyahoga County Public Defender and member of AFSCME Local 3631, was elected to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. O’Donnell was a marquee candidate for the North Shore AFL-CIO and received significant support from organized labor.

Dan Troy, a retired sheetmetal worker and member of SMART Local 33, was re-elected to the Ohio General Assembly to represent District 23.

Over 150 local unions are affiliated with our labor federation. We represent workers from bus drivers to steelworkers, public sector workers to grocery workers, rocket scientists at NASA, and world-renowned orchestra musicians.
