During a press conference on Friday morning, the North Shore AFL-CIO announced its endorsement of Dennis Kucinich for Mayor of Cleveland. “For his entire career, Dennis Kucinich has made it abundantly clear that he is firmly on the side of Cleveland’s workers,” said North Shore Executive Secretary Dan O’Malley, “as Dennis runs for Mayor of Cleveland…we are on his side too.”

With more than 50,000 voters within union households in Cleveland, the endorsement from the North Shore is significant. “There is no organization in this city that has the impact of the AFL-CIO. Collectively, their members will determine the next Mayor of the City of Cleveland,” said Kucinich.

O’Malley cited Kucinich’s 100% voting record on labor issues during his time in Congress, his willingness to respond to the needs of workers, and his strong moral compass as the reason he received well over the required 2/3 majority of the North Shore’s Delegate Body.

Kucinich described the principles of organized labor, including the right to organize, collectively bargain, and strike, as “fundamental rights of a democratic society.”
